House Sparrow

A very chattery and active species known to move around in large, noisy flocks. Far from shy of humans, they can often be seen scavenging around picnic benches, and have a reputation for being accomplished opportunists.

Despite this, the house sparrow is in decline here in the UK, and its conservation status is currently listed as red by the RSPB, indicating that it most needs our help. Its decline has been linked to changes in agricultural practices, such as the loss of winter stubbles.
